So, now you’re engaged. Congratulations! It's time to tell everyone! Engagement sessions give you a great set of images to put together a beautiful announcement. Even if this isn’t you, getting engagement pictures taken by a professional photographer is a nice way to get those jitters out.
One of the most popular questions I get from couples before an engagement session is “what should I wear to our session?!” I always want you to feel comfortable and for you to be relaxed. But, there are some guidelines I’ve picked up over the years that can make your outfits look amazing together.
ROCK THE NEUTRALS
Not sure where to start? Mixing in neutrals (white, black, gray, navy, khaki, tan, brown, blue jeans) is a great foundation for your session wardrobe.
COORDINATE, DON’T MATCH
Once you’ve maxed out your neutrals you will only need to add a color or two to complete the look. Better yet, pick one color and work within that color family. Speaking of color:
BLUE IS YOUR FRIEND
Blue is one of the rare colors that looks great on everyone. Special bonus – every shade of blue works together and blue looks good with almost any other color, season or backdrop.
You don’t want to reach for a hug or a kiss from your bae and realize you can’t move your arms!
HAVE FUN WITH ACCESSORIES
If you are worried your outfit is a bit on the basic side, then try adding a scarf, some bold jewelry, a hat, or a belt to add some pizazz to your outfits. If accessories just don’t feel like you or if the thought of figuring this out seems overwhelming, don’t worry, it’s not required.
BRING ON THE PATTERNS
Patterns can be a great way to express your personality and style.
KEEP IT TIMELESS
The photos we create together will likely be hanging on your walls for many years to come. Fashion trends change fast and it’s sometimes hard to recognize them when we’re in it. Consider a classic look that won’t look dated or trendy in 10 years.
Be as dressy or as casual as you want. If that means you want to wear feety pajamas and a top hat, then go for it! If you've booked a 2-3 hour session, bring a couple of changes of cloths to mix it up a little. We can almost always find a spot for you to change for a different look.
Hopefully this helps. Just remember, during the session sit back and relax. Come prepared to have a blast.
